WUPID 2011

      WUPID?. Have you heard about it before? What is it actually. I doesn`t know it deeply. However, WUPID is stand for World Universities Peace Invitational Debate. My lecturer is the person who introduced this to my fellow classmates and I as he is actively joined debate since he was in University. He has many experiences in this field.

     On 17 to 21 December 2011, University Putra Malaysia (UPM) had been given opportunity to conduct WUPID championship. There are 32 Universities from all around the world took place in this prestigious competition. Among them are Oxford University, Cambridge University, University of Singapore, University of Sydney, University of Monash and Victoria University of Wellington.

     Among the motion chosen are ;

  • R1. TH would abolish permanent membership of the UN Security Council.
  • R2. With the benefit of hindsight, TH regrets awarding President Barrack Obama the Nobel   Peace Prize.
  • R3. THBT Asia should welcome Chinese Military Expansion.
  • R4. THBT Malaysia should embrace the right to peaceful assembly.
  • R5. THBT The peaceful resolution of conflicts in South America must include the international legalization of cocaine.
  • QF. THBT the UN should insist on focused assassination attempts prior to approving wider military action for regime change.
  • SF. THBT all whistle blowers from the military should be given amnesty.
  • GF: THBT unfettered capitalism is the greatest obstacle to world peace.

      Based on it, I think it is a difficult topic to be discussed. On the last day of this debate competition, we were all requested to watch the Grand Finale which was held at Dewan Besar UPM. So, I was among the spectators who came that night.

        At that night, the finalist were ; Bank Rakyat Oxford Union ( Opening Government )

                                                   Ateneo Manilla ( Opening Opposition )
                                                   Victoria university of Wellington ( Closing Opposition )

       What can I say is, they are all very impressive and superb. Non-stop speaking and fluently.
