Internship | Workshop Management (5S, 4R, Kaizen and Shingo)

Assalamualaikum and Hi,

Memandangkan hari ni aku belajar tentang Workshop Management, jadinya, aku ingin kongsikan sedikit sebanyak ilmu yang aku dapat tadi.

5S

4R concept means Reduce, Replace, Reuse and Recycle. By practicing the 4R concept in our daily life, we can reduce the production of wastes and use the resources more effectively.

1) Reduce
Reduce the use of unnecessary material and energy. Example :
Buy only what you really need
'Bring your own bag' while shopping
Buy home care product with family size
Reduce the use of tissue paper
Reduce disposable eating utensils
Use environmental-friendly material

2) Replace/ Renewable
Replace goods which are harmful to the environment by environmental friendly ones. Example :
Buy returnable bottled drinks
Store food in boxes instead of using plastic wrapping films
Use rechargeable batteries or AC electricity instead of disposable battery

3) Reuse
Reuse resources if possible. Example :
Use both sides of paper
Reuse plastic bags
Reuse containers

4) Recycle
Classify and recycle garbage
Garbage could be separated and collected by contractors, and recycled into new materials/products finally, e.g. recycled paper.
Advantages of Recycling:
Reduce the amount of garbage produced.
Enable the Earth's resources to be sustained continuously.

Kaizen

Kaizen (改善), Chinese and Japanese for "'continuous improvement". When used in the business sense and applied to the workplace, kaizen refers to activities that continually improve all functions and involve all employees from the CEO to the assembly line workers.

It also applies to processes, such as purchasing and logistics, that cross organizational boundaries into thesupply chain. It has been applied in healthcare, psychotherapy, life-coaching , government, banking, and other industries.

By improving standardized activities and processes, kaizen aims to eliminate waste (see lean manufacturing). Kaizen was first implemented in several Japanese businesses after the Second World War, influenced in part by American business and quality management teachers who visited the country.
It has since spread throughout the world and is now being implemented in environments outside of business and productivity.
Kaizen is continuous improvement that is based on certain guiding principles:

  • Good processes bring good results
  • Go see for yourself to grasp the current situation
  • Speak with data, manage by facts
  • Take action to contain and correct root causes of problems
  • Work as a team
  • Kaizen is everybody’s business
  • And much more!

The Shingo Model

The Shingo Model is based around 10 Guiding Principles which align the systems within an organisation and the specific tools required to produce results.
Shingo Discover Excellence principles and models
